
The Dean, is a wonderful family house which is listed as a building of special historic and architectural interest. Enjoying a magnificent view of the Firth of Forth it is in a secluded setting on the edge of a quiet coastal village of Longniddry, only a few hundred yards from a golden sandy beach with rocky outcrops and well known as an area where sports like windsurfing and kitesurfing can be enjoyed. So much fun to watch too. Nearby are Aberlady Bay Nature Reserve and the beautiful sandy beaches of Gullane and Yellowcraig, the wonderful coastal walks and castles to visit and many other attractions of East Lothian on its doorstep. It is a well decorated, organized and comfortable family house offering a relaxing atmosphere.
Our location, is only twelve miles from Edinburgh and the very close A1 bypass allowing easy access to the A1 which enables guests to easily take in a day's sight seeing and shopping in the historic festival city with its many art galleries and cultural actvities. Those who do not want to drive can take the regular train, which is about five minutes away and only takes 20 minutes into the town centre. Running until late at night makes a day's shopping or evening out in Edinburgh remarkably easy to organize. Nearby there is a stables which offers pony treking, or for the bird watcher in particular, travel a short distance down the coast to the seaside holiday town of North Berwick where in the harbour you can either hire a boat to sale around the Bass Rock, boasting the largest colony of gannets in the world, or visit the Seabird Centre to view them by telescope, plus seals, puffins, and other seabirds.
The Dean is also in easy reach of the Borders with its woolen mills and crafts, but particualrly perfect for all holidamakers who seek golf or even a bit of peace in the beautiful two acre garden, with the tennis court as a diversion.
For the many golf enthusasts, this stretch of the east coast of Scotland is a paradise and The Dean, featured in many calanders and books since the early 1920's, is ajacent to Longniddry Golf Course who welcome any non members who wish to play, and we are within easy driving distance of many well known famous courses including the championship course, Muirfield, and three at Gullane, Luffness New and Craigielaw amongst some fifteen or so others. Games can be arranged, transport provided and caddies arranged and a bus at the end of the road travels the coast which boasts a host of interesting actvities for those non-golfers.
Apart from golf we can name a few of the local other visitor attractions: Direlton and Tantalion Castles that are both ruins and rich in Scottish History, the wonderful Adam stately house Gosford' occasionally open to the public is a short distance away as is the Collegiate Chapel at Seton and stately home Lennoxlove, the distillery at GlenKinchie and its samples is only a few miles away, not forgetting Concord which can be seen at the Museum of Flight near Haddington.
For those staying more than one night Longniddry meets basic critera with its own hairdresser, a bank, a chemist , post office and grocery stores all within walking distance. The golden sands of Seacliff and North Berwick are nearby with Gullane and Longniddry bents.
